Sheepstation AGAST Artists' Party Sept 2009 was a lot of fun. There were about 50 artists in attendance and it looks like we might just have a new 2010 steering committee! More news to come . . . If you are interested in helping with the tour please contact info@agastbrooklyn.com
A big thanks to all our 2009 volunteers! Tam Thomsen, Magalie Occean, Martha Walker for the special flyer mailing to critics, galleries and press. LJ Lindhurst, Kathleen Collins, Lawrence Quigley, Susan Newmark for sitting at our table for Atlantic Antic. Hilary Lorenz for Grantwriting. David Lantow and Josh Marks for fundraising, organizing pedicabs and the special gallery show for AGASTkids, banner & passport distribution & pickup. Joseph Morris for flyer distribution, passport prize soliciting and organization. Linda Tharp for artist correspondence in email and group blasts and for all of you who have taken flyers to pass out.
2009 brings new beginnings. A big welcome to our new board listed under Contact Us. A "Green" Gowanus is being promoted by AGAST with new paperless registration, a walking tour with pedicabs, and education. As the Gowanus is petitioning for Superfund status, select AGAST artists, are meeting with AGASTkids, youngsters in the Gowanus area, to explain a few things about the Canal use and how it impacts their art directly. In turn, AGASTkids will be invited to exhibit their works on the tour. Finally, the Gowanus area is now home to more artists than ever via city protection of urban buildings used as commercial studios by IBZ, Industrial Business Zone.
